WH-9000-C24-CL Customer

A customer dropped off a WH-9000 C24 WO wheel set with us.

The front wheel had a slight wobble, and the rear wheel had some runout too.

There was hub centering misalignment. Given that the direction of the drift isn't consistent with normal wear over time, and the magnitude is enough that it wouldn't pass Shimano's quality inspection, this is definitely the result of lateral truing work done without a centering gauge. According to the customer, an acquaintance did the work, so if it wasn't done professionally, well, there's not much we can do about it. "When you combine the conditions that the bonus tools included with the wheel make it difficult to turn the high-tension freewheel side, plus the fact that lateral truing basically requires tightening," this is what happens.

Fixed it. Of course I did the lateral truing as well.

But it really is "up to the 9000" level. Honestly. We've only had 9100 complete wheel sets brought in for inspection twice at our shop. There might be blogs out there criticizing Shimano wheels' shortcomings, but beyond that, I think the real issue was that they never offered 11-speed conversion support for the 7900 series.
