I took an unexpected day off yesterday, but there were several reasons for it.
The biggest reason was that a large shipment of rims for ノムラボ wheels (Nomura Lab wheels) arrived
and I needed to inspect and process them. Right now, rims are filling up the entire shop.
Since we still don't have hubs, I can't build them yet, but I need to get an inventory count done.
I've been receiving orders directly at the shop, via comments, email, phone calls, and various other methods,
but I haven't yet made a chronologically organized spreadsheet of them all.
Related to that, I swapped the shop computer with my home computer.
Ugh, this keyboard is so hard to type on!
I keep getting the urge to rip off the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK keys.
This computer didn't have spreadsheet software, so I installed OpenOffice,
but every time I DELETE a cell with any text in it,
it asks "Do you want to delete just the text? Or also the formatting?" which is incredibly annoying.
Also, when a formula starts with a full-width = (equals sign),
it treats it as text instead of a formula, which is inconvenient.
Excel doesn't do that (it automatically treats it as a half-width equals and processes it as a formula).
But I shouldn't complain about free software, I suppose.
And the inconveniences I'm feeling might just be because I'm used to Excel,
or maybe they can't make it the same as Excel due to patent issues.
So I went ahead and bought Excel 2013.

Now when I left-click on a different cell from the one that's currently selected,
the selection smoothly "slides" over instead of warping.
I notice other small details that make it feel more user-friendly too.
With improvements like this, you tend to take them for granted and don't really notice them,
but when you go back to using an older version afterward,
you really feel how clunky it is.
It's the same with wheels—swap to lighter ones and after three days it feels normal,
but when you temporarily go back to heavier wheels,
you suddenly realize how heavy they were.
Anyway, time to get this inventory counted.
