I rebuilt the rear wheel for an Alex Moulton

Another day with wheels (and so on).

I rebuilt the rear wheel for an Alex Moulton.

This is a 17-inch rim for a Moulton.
Some of you might recognize it,
but the previous spec was (→here).

Back then it had a Record hub, but the customer told me
"The rear dropout width on the Moulton is 135mm"
so I had to rebuild it. Oh man, what a surprise.
Apparently Moulton frames come with either
130mm or 135mm rear spacing.

So, backtracking in the timeline,

I carefully disassembled the wheel and removed the spokes on the freewheel side,

Since the hub was different, the dimensions changed,
but the spokes got shorter on one side,
so after cutting I reinstalled them as freewheel-side spokes.
From then on I've been carefully distinguishing between drive-side and non-drive-side spokes when transplanting them.

The freewheel-side spokes are 14-gauge plain,
and the non-drive-side are 15-gauge plain,
so the nipple thread hole sizes are different.

The hub shell on this White Industries (high-quality hub brand) is nicely finished—
it has etching with uniform depth running along the waist,
which is understated but meticulous work.

It's built.
MI5 hub, 32H, all Champion spokes (14/15 gauge), 4-cross lacing, no brake bridge.

The spoke lengths match up nicely.
The marks on the rim are just adhesive residue from the rim tape that was on there before.
