Another wheel build today (and so on...).
I built a front wheel using a Mavic CXP40 rim.
Looking at the rim itself, it really seems like they just took a rim designed for complete wheels,
tweaked the hole specs and hole count to make it a universal rim.
To use an old example, it's got the same relationship as the CXP30 rim and
the original Cosmic Elite rim.
I wish they'd at least stuck a sticker on the rim somewhere labeling it as CXP40.
Evolite hub, 20H, black CX Sprint outpoke radial lace.
Personally, I think the overall performance of the square aero spokes on the Cosmic Pro Carbon UST without the "SL" suffix
is actually superior to those razor-sharp flat spokes on the Cosmic Pro Carbon "SL" UST—the kind that could cut your fingers.
The CX Sprint has dimensions close to those square aero spokes.
You might think a steel spoke radial front wheel is the same no matter who builds it,
but there's one point where this wheel is definitively superior to Mavic's complete wheels.
Spare spokes for this wheel have stable availability,
and you're not forced to buy spokes as a set.
See, I hate "wheels that *should* be fixable but aren't."
Just the other day I saw an example—someone couldn't find spokes for a Mavic wheel that wasn't even that old.
Since this rim is probably just a different hole-count version of the current Cosmic at the same rim height,
the rim's solo weight might be pretty valuable information.
The stated weight is 450g, by the way.
As for the actual measured weight... like I'm gonna tell you that! Now scram!
