Another day, another wheel (and so on).

I built a front wheel with a Tni SUB1 rim.

ONYX Vesper hub, 20H
Black CX-RAY spokes, non-drive-side radial lacing

Blue aluminum nipples.

Going back in time a bit—
this is a photo of the hub axle end before I built the wheel.
The blue anodize is the customer's order for the ONYX,
and with respect to that, they're asking for the blue aluminum nipples to be
as dark in color as possible.

DT's blue anodized nipples have color inconsistencies
not just between lots, but even within a single box.
Unrelated to this project, but the red nipples
have been getting lighter recently.
Unlike the blue, there's no inconsistency within a box—
the color depth is uniform throughout one box.
The red got lighter about 7 or 8 years ago, and since then
I've stopped seeing darker lots at all.
Recently it's gotten even lighter than that.
I still have some from before it faded,
so I actually haven't used the latest version of red yet.

↑ These are ones I visually sorted from the same box labeled "Blue,"
with the right side being the darker shade.
Yet they're supposedly the same color.

↑ The new color I added at the bottom is
not Blue but "Turquoise."
However, this Turquoise also has variation in color depth,
and the lighter Blue looks almost the same as the darker Turquoise.
It's possible that these colors start from the same pigment base
and are (supposedly) differentiated by the duration of the treatment process.

↑ These are all Turquoise—
the right is dark, the left is light,
and the center one has uneven coloring.

Rim weight alone

Front wheel assembled weight
As the customer mentioned as well,
the ONYX rear hub is heavy due to its stepless ratchet mechanism,
so even though the rim claims to be SUB1,
the combined weight of both wheels will likely exceed 1kg.
