I Rebuilt the Front and Rear Wheels for the WH-R8170-C36

Another day with wheels (et cetera).

There's an Ultegra C36 front wheel that's supposed to go out today,
and since both need to be rebuilt
(well, since there are two front wheels, one has to become the rear wheel)
yesterday was the last Saturday and our day off,
but I came to the shop and got them pretty much finished.

I took apart both wheels.
This front wheel was out of stock at the distributor and we were waiting for restocking,
scheduled to arrive on October 21st,
and it did arrive right on schedule.
As of today it's out of stock again
and scheduled to restock on January 17th next year.
I'm not sure about the rear wheel inventory.
Our shop has only ever purchased
front wheels in Ultegra C36 wheels.

The hub barrel seals are VG (July 2023) and
VH (August 2023).
So they arrived in Japan about 2-3 months after manufacturing.
At least in this case.

To quickly disassemble wheels and do temporary assembly,
the drill bits we have on hand at the shop include
a minus-head (with special machining) for standard nipples,
3.2mm across-flats standard nipple reverse-head nipple bits,
Squorx nipple bits, the hex side of Rohloff,
and so on, but for this wheel
I also prepared a bit for the current Shimano wheel's outer hex.

When the drill whines, it looks like this

So I rebuilt the front wheel using the VH hub with black straight spokes in a half-CX sprint pattern,
and the rear wheel using a Tni Revo disc hub with black bent-head spokes in a half-CX sprint pattern
—rather than half-competition, for reasons of my own
—and when the customer came in today I did the final check and truing and handed them over, but...
I forgot to take a photo of the rebuilt wheels
Arggghhhhhhhh
Believe me, I really did rebuild them
There were like 3 other customers in the shop so I have witnesses
The customer currently only has cyclocross bikes with through-axle disc brakes,
so they're planning to switch to these wheels when they buy a disc road bike in the future
They also bought Maxxis Speedterrain 33C tires to go with them
They'd asked to have tire inserts installed as well, but
I forgot to bring them in today, so
they decided to put the tires on themselves,
so we just handed the wheels over without installing them at the shop
Arghhhhhh
