Another day with wheels (and so on).

A customer brought me a Métron 40 LTD wheel from Vision, FSA's wheel and TT parts brand.

The spokes are heavily rusted,
and they want them replaced.

Rust from the inside is lifting the paint coating,

and when you touch it, the brittle paint coating cracks and flakes off. Living near the coast, or frequently riding on roads treated with calcium chloride for frost prevention—when you're dealing with salt damage like that, I used to think Mavic's recent spokes were the worst for corrosion, but this one is in even worse condition.

The hub body is dirty, but the bearing rotation shows no problems.
I'll clean it once the hub is separated.

The nipples are a type that can be turned from the outside with a 6mm wrench,
but since the surface is corroded, I won't reuse them.
The initial resistance when turning the nipples was tight, and rust powder scattered with a sharp crack.

This wheel isn't just called the Métron 40,

the model name has LTD appended to it. I thought this might mean "rusted," but "rusted" starts with R, not L, so it might be an acronym for Lamentable Tarnish Damage—a rather fitting designation given what we're looking at.

Wheel is built.

Vision hub 18H black CX-RAY, laced radial (forced radial pattern).
Since it's 18H, I considered using CX Sprint, but I knew the customer's build ahead of time and they wanted CX-RAY, so I went with that this time.
