A customer dropped off a 406 HE 20-inch rim.
They wanted the rear wheel built
with a Shimano Deore-grade hub,
so I built the rear wheel using a Deore hub.
FH-M5100 32H black all-championship
Rokuroku JIS lacing, no cable ties,
black brass nipples.
The rim looks champagne gold,
but it was actually pulled from a rear wheel
that was built with a different hub.
When I checked the complete bike specs for
the small-frame bike that wheel came from,
it only came in black rim or silver rim options,
so this must be the black anodize on the rim
faded by UV exposure.
I sometimes see similar fading on crossbikes—
black anodized stems and seatposts
turning brown or brass-colored over time,
and that's exactly what happened here.
