A customer dropped off their bike for maintenance,
but this is about something completely different.
↑The tubular tire got a puncture, so
the customer replaced it themselves.
You can see the marks from running on it while flat.
This is the rear wheel, and the label is on the non-drivetrain side.
The tread pattern is (not similar to, but exactly the same as) Vittoria Corsa CX,
but in this case the correct way to mount it is with the direction of travel toward the right in the image.
So this is actually left-labeled and reversed.
I asked the customer, "Weren't you fooled by the label?"
and they said, "I only looked at the tread."
That's impressive.
↑There's printing that says "Soyo Racing."
↑It looks like it's made in Thailand.
I wonder if there's some excellent OEM manufacturer out there?
The tire sidewall casing has this unique thin blackness and texture, as if it was originally tan and then hastily dyed black.
↑Here there's printing that says "Daiwa Bō" (Daiwa Spinning), but
what I want to point out is
the blue triangle-like mark on the base tape.
I won't name the manufacturer, but a certain tire maker's base tape has
a blue "X" stamped on it.
I lined it up with that certain tire.
The sidewall texture is very similar too.
Soyo's high-end seamless tubular tires are definitely made in-house in Japan.
Their tubeless tires are outsourced to Hutchinson for production.
I suspect these budget tubular tires are also made somewhere else, but...
