Eurus

I received an Eurus wheel from a customer.

The EURUS wheel has been around for a long time,
and according to documentation from back then, it was sometimes written as "Eurus".

This is completely unrelated to the current job,
but below the Kevlar-sheathed disc wheel "Ghibli" was
the budget veneer-based "Kamsin",
and the front wheel derived from the disc wheel with four holes drilled for crosswind protection
was the original "Sirocco".
"Centaur" was originally the name of Campagnolo's lower-tier mountain bike component group.

The problem with these naming conventions is mostly "Super Record".
Nowadays, Super Record almost exclusively refers to the recent 11-speed component group.

I really wish Selle Italia would stop reusing names like "Flight" and "SLR" for model changes.
For example, when someone says "the Flight is hurting my rear end",
I have to ask "which version?"

Anyway, the customer's request was
to swap it to a Shimano 11-speed freehub body.
The job should be straightforward.

Darn it!
It had an old shaft with no butting and no triangular notch cutout.
The current freehub body won't fit.

So I was going to file in the butting
and cut the notches at 120° intervals.
↑Just kidding—I replaced it with a new shaft.

The eras don't match at all—it's a mismatch.

This Eurus is the flagship model from before the Shamal Ultra came out.
Its specs and weight were on par with the Neutron of that era,
so it also has internal nipples.
The Neutron's rear rim has reinforcement walls for offset rim strength, so
in terms of catalog specs, this rear wheel is lighter.
With internal nipples, it can handle more spoke tension than the current Zonda,
but since it hasn't embraced left-right different-diameter builds yet,
the current Zonda with Mega G3 and different-diameter builds is
theoretically superior,
but this Eurus rim is so exceptionally light that
under the condition of "original parts only, adjustment only through spoke tension variation",
I think this Eurus is overall the better-rolling wheel.
For flat ground riding only, the current Zonda might be the better choice.
