A customer brought in a Ksyrium SLR for me to work on.
I took these photos of the rear wheel without unwrapping anything, but both front and rear wheels are brand new and unused.
The rear wheel's center was way off toward the non-freewheel side.
Looking at the lateral runout in the brake zone on the non-freewheel side,
the biggest wobble was directly under the aluminum spoke on the freewheel side.
Perfect! If I could do the centering and true-up with just snugging up the freewheel side,
I wouldn't need to pull the shaft and remove the lock ring, which cuts the work time down considerably.
And I managed to pull it off that way.
The front wheel had a slight centering issue too,
but it was minor compared to the rear.
Before we even got to crab-light inspection, the customer asked
me to weigh them without the quick release, tire, or tube using actual measured weight.
When Mavic first introduced their WTS (Wheel Tire System),
they listed the weight including the tire and tube in the official specs,
but apparently there was criticism about not clearly marking the weight of the wheel alone,
so now the official weight is for the wheel by itself.
Either way, it's all official announcement, so I don't take it at face value.
