I'm thinking about a rubber band that breaks at a certain length.
This is an analogy for spokes.
When a rubber band breaks, that's "fracture," but
here I'm thinking of the stage before that—plastic deformation, in other words the moment it goes "stretchy"—
as the point we're considering.

When I thread that rubber band through both wire and rubber cord

I was just thinking about which one breaks first when you pull them.
Since my thoughts aren't organized yet, there's no continuation. Sorry about that.
