Another day with wheels (and so on).

A customer brought me a front wheel built with a vintage Super Aero rim for work.

Shimano 600 Ultegra front hub HB-6400 28H
laced in the 6-cross JIS style,

The spokes are star-mark ☆ spokes—stainless steel
(a specific model designation, different from the generic term "stainless")that barely reacts even to a fairly strong magnet.
Later, the spoke manufacturer themselves distributed counterfeits with the same marking but different magnetic properties,
but this is from before that happened.

The wheel had significant centering issues, and

unlike the rear wheel which was built with DT spokes and DT nipples,
the front uses star-brand brass nipples(spoke accessories).
Since different tool sizes are needed for front and rear wheels
(the image above shows a 3.4mm nipple that won't accept the 3.2mm tool),
I suspect the front and rear wheels were built at different times by different mechanics.

I disassembled the wheel and replaced every component except the rim, then rebuilt it.

HB-7600 28H current-model Aero Star Bright 14-gauge
laced in 6-cross Italian style.
While the hub and rim themselves have no left-right orientation,
the Italian lacing pattern creates left-right properties.

Now, for these 28H wheels I just built in a row,
I need to solder all 56 spoke crossings total on both sides.
I'll do that later.
