Rebuilt the front wheel of the Bontrager Aerolos Pro 51

Another day with wheels (and so on).

A customer brought in both front and rear wheels
from a Bontrager Aerolos Pro 51.
The rear wheel is where the trickier work happens,
but the front wheel needs to be rebuilt as well.

When it came in, it wasn't equipped with Bontrager tires,
but Bontrager tires have the unique design where
the lettering's gravity faces outward (→see here),
so the rim's lettering gravity also faces outward
to match that aesthetic.
Apart from the tires themselves, there are other examples
of rims where the lettering faces outward,
but they're not that common.

The hub is DT, but it's a 350 with just the cosmetics changed to Bontrager branding—
the design itself isn't a custom job.
So in the end, they're using a better hub than
Roval hubs that do unnecessary things, or
GIANT's SLR hubs that still have DBL marked on the hub flange diameter.

The spokes are all-black Aerolite with equal diameter on both sides,
24H with a forced two-cross lacing pattern on both sides.

I disassembled the wheel.
The spoke lengths differed by 2mm between left and right,
and on the right side—the longer one by 2mm that I'd be reusing—
one spoke was bent.

↑Here's how it looks compared to a straight one

RIMG0770amx15x.jpg
I tried bending it back slightly, but
the 2.0mm plain section
wouldn't straighten out easily.
So instead of reusing it, I replaced it with a black CX-RAY spoke.

The other day with the DT C1800 Spline
unequal-diameter two-sided wheel, the hub had
slitted holes, but this one has traditional round holes
just like the standard 350.

It's built.

On the left side (the disc rotor mounting side),
I used Sapim's black CX Sprint spokes.
This length can't be obtained with the manufacturing-defective
310mm CX Sprint spokes that can only be cut down to 280mm,
and since the distributor's stock hasn't recovered from the shortage
caused by hoarding, currently only our shop can build this.
The reason why I can definitively say hoarding caused the shortage is unclear

The final spoke crossings on both sides are interlaced,
which matches the original configuration as well.
The spoke wrapping will be done later.

RIMG0777amx15x.jpg
The CX Sprint has no stamping on the spoke head,
but instead has "SAPIM" stamped on the spoke body itself.

RIMG0778amx15x.jpg
The Aerolite ones look almost square,
but they have the DT stamping on the spoke head—
a "T" sticking down from a "D".
