Corima Sensei - Lesson 1

There's a rim manufacturer called Corima, but
it doesn't seem to get much recognition lately, so
I'm going to write about why I think Corima is amazing.

Corima could be called the godfather of carbon rims.
Not only carbon rims, but they released disc wheels in 1988
and baton wheels in 1990, which shows they're a long-established maker.
The rims for Campagnolo's original Bora, Gipiemme's C416,
and Ambrosio carbon rims are all Corima OEM products.
They're strong against buckling and heat, and back in the day,
when you wanted trouble-free carbon rims, Corima was pretty much the only choice.
But you don't see them much anymore these days.
Maybe it's because they don't get much exposure supplying pro teams. What a shame...

I like Corima rims, so I have a few of them.
One day I got a sudden craving for a Corima 12, so I asked my distributor about stock.
(The Corima 12 is the 12H spec of Corima's Aero rim.
It's discontinued now. If you want carbon spokes, there is a 12H version.)
It turned out that the 12H Aero was actually already discontinued at that point,
but they said "we happen to have one." One? What do you mean "happen to"?
Apparently it had been delivered to some shop once, but the wheel had runout that couldn't be trued from the start,
so it was returned. There was just one unit left.
I said "Please do whatever you can to fix it" and had it sent to me, this Corima 12.
I wondered how much runout it had, but it straightened out right away.
So after about two years since it was discontinued, it finally came to me
through a roundabout route—this is the real, genuine, last-ever one.

This type of Corima hub is unusual for a complete wheel in that it uses hooked spokes.
Also, did you notice? This is a Nupoke radial lacing.
Corima is probably the only maker to produce a complete wheel with Nupoke hub specs.

↑Corima uses fine-weave 3K carbon and
coarse-weave 12K carbon depending on the model.
This one is the 12K version. 12K is a more recent spec,
and it came out around the same time the 12H Aero was discontinued.

I believe the Cosmic Carbon Ultimate rim is also Corima-made.
If it's not Corima, I might get sued for how identical they look.

It's a spoked wheel, so the spokes protrude out.
But 12H has fewer spokes than even the Rolfulprima 10H, so
you can really feel the good wind passage. Or rather, I should say it deflects headwind well.

But that headwind-deflecting characteristic is outperformed by the baton wheel.

Since the blade fits completely within the rim width,
it has the best frontal projected area of any wheel.

Corima's amazing points don't end there. More coming soon...
